Uses & Applications: Hummer Sound Control Application

The initial decibel reading measured inside the cab of this Hummer, (with the engine revving at 2,000 rpm) was 74 to 75 decibels. After applying 8 quart bottles under the hood and wheel wells, inside floors, driveline hump and topside wheel wells, the decibel reading measured 70 to 71 decibels, for a 4 to 5 dB reduction. That's equivalent to a reduction of 30% of perceived noise and was very noticeable to the ear.
Hummer CoatŪ, the AM General version of Total CoatŪ Sound Control is also available through authorized H1 dealers.

Sound Control's coating adhesion on fibreglass is very good with sound dampening qualities comparable to reductions on metal surfaces (-10 Decibels+/- at 100-3,000 Hz).
Hood edges and vents were masked for application. Light plastic was also used to cover the engine while cleaning the hood with a water-based degreaser.
Interior trim, sound blankets and silicone adhesives were removed from application surfaces and door frames, heater fan area and dash/instrument panels masked off.

The rear bed was also coated up to and along the sides of the windows. While it is difficult to coat underneath an H1, you can apply a solid coating on the topside for substantial noise reduction purposes.
